So we have some big news... many of you already know of our dream to start a studio business, well we are in the very beginning stages of this (its called KM Media Studios). We were praying about our financial situation and then all of the sudden stuff started falling into place and now we are getting videography equipment for a fraction of the price its really worth and are going to start doing proffesional wedding and other videography. I already do and love photography, but I don't have a DSLR camera yet so we will have to wait a tiny bit for the wedding photography with a proffesional camera. Anyway, we really want to start working on demo videos so that we can get more business, so tell everyone you know about us. We are doing a promo for an "almost-free videography event" (for the next 3 people that want it) so that we can make demo videos with our footage. You only need to pay for the discounted security deposit of $100 and $15 per DVD you want to purchase (thats about cost). So tell everyone you know about our amazing offer, I promise that we'll do a great job. When someone loves what they do as much as we do it almost always turns out great. :) Our web page for this new business endeavor is www.kmMediaStudios.blogspot.com.

Another Tooth

Hey Everyone! Taking care of a little one can really take it out of someone. Kirk and I got next to no sleep last night because Eeva didn't sleep well. At first we thought she was hungry, but because she ate so much and still had a problem I figured out that even though we had swaddled her, she wasn't warm enough. The swaddling blankets we have are getting a little small and they are pretty light so we have to use two in order to cover her completely, and they are a little thin. So once I knew she was cold at about 5 this morning, I wrapped her up in a fleece Crib Blanket. Thank goodness those are a good size to swaddle her in. She is now sleeping fine, but poor kirk had to get up at 6 and head to work. He goes right to school after work and won't be home until around 10pm. That is such a long work day to have without having sleep the night before. I hope he handles it ok.

On Our Own - Time Together

As most of you know, our little family is now living in married student campus housing. It is so nice to be on our own again. I've been trying a bunch of new recipes in our tiny kitchen, but wish I had more time than I do... Eeva doesn't like to give me too much time without holding her or carrying her around, so I have to pick short and easy recipes if possible, and I love finding freezable recipes to store for those nights when I just don't have time to really cook at all. Kirk has been such a wonderful husband and father, he still brings Eeva to me when she wakes up in the middle of the night whimpering for food, and he does the middle of the night diaper changes when they're needed. He takes such good care of our little angel. We had two of our first romantic evenings together for the first time since the baby was born the last couple nights. We pulled out our nice champaign glasses and had wildberry italian soda floats in them the first night, with a fun "re-get to know you" conversation about our favorite colors. That one ended early because the baby woke up from what ended up just being a nap before bed. The second night was Kirk's idea. He pulled out the glasses with what was left of the italian soda and made homemade real italian pizzas. The recipe didn't even call for cheese, but wow were those little pizzas amazing! She woke up just after we finished an amazing conversation and our wonderful dinner. It was so nice to have some conversation time to just revamp things a little since we don't have much one on one time now that the baby takes up almost all of our time. She is a very high maintenance time consuming little angel, and we love her to bits.

More Videos

We just uploaded a bunch more videos of adorable little Eeva to YouTube... Sacrament Meeting starts at 9:00AM, and there will be a get-together immediately after the meeting. Directions to the Ward House: Take I15 to the Highland/Alpine exit, head west on that road for about 5 miles, to 4800 West. Turn right, go down the hill, after you go back up the hill take a left at Ole Bish Lane. Follow the Ole Bish to the end and you're at the church. To get to the get-together, exit the parking lot on the east side (opposite of the one you entered,) and take a right. Straight through the 3-way intersection is the Barclay family's driveway. This is a map, if that didn't help... Trent wrote a poem to Mandy, and Jed and I wrote this song based on it. We performed this song at Mandy and Trent's wedding reception, and soon after performing, locked ourselves in a small echoey room of that LDS Ward house and played it again for my little digital recorder/mixer. (I only had one mic so it's not the best recording.) After a couple takes, and hours of editing months later, this is the final output. Come With Me, by Jed Lee and Kirk Miller.

This is a super cute video of Eeva sucking on her fingers when she was 6 days old. She loved sucking on them when she was first born and for about the first week and a half, but now that she's 3 weeks old, she tends to prefer them mostly at night. She very rarely goes for them during the day anymore.

Eeva at 17 days

Its been about 17 days since Eeva was born. Things are definately a lot different with her here. She has brought so much Joy to Kirk and I. I am a slow healer so the recovery from this delivery is taking a lot longer and is harder than I expected, but its worth it to have our adorable little one here. She has a really strong neck for her age (even though she is still learning what to do with it and needs to be supported) and super strong legs & arms. She is always trying to squirm out of the swaddling blankets and a lot of the time is able to succeed because of her mighty strength. :) The day after we came home from the hospital she rolled over from her back to her stomach all by herself. That was a big surprise to us since we thought that babies couldn't do that for a little while. She has given us a few scares. In the hospital they had to pump her stomach about 4 times because she would stop breathing occasionally. She's had a couple of close calls like that since we got home from the hospital, but its gotten a lot less frequent, and isn't nearly the worry it was a week ago. A couple days ago she started noticing little things like the mobile and a certain rattle toy we put on her car seat. That was fun. We think she has started to recognize Kirk and I as well. Yesturday I went into the bathroom to shower and she started fussing a lot, Kirk finally brought her into the bathroom to see me and when she saw me she immediately stopped fussing. It was like she just needed to know I was ok, since she couldn't see me. It was very cute. Nursing this little angel has been interesting. At first I was giving all that she wanted per feeding. That stopped working because she would feed for an entire 45 minutes and then start spewing out throw up for more than half the day. When we talked to the doctor about this he said to feed her less amounts and more often, so thats what we've started to do. At night she'll eat about every 4 hours just like any other normal baby, but during the day we have to feed her every 1.5 hours. Sometimes every hour. We usually give her 15 to 20 minutes, or if she wants to eat less, sometimes its 5 or 10 minutes instead. Since we've started this routine she has started spitting up a more normal amount instead of throwing up all day, so its a good thing. There are definately a lot of new things happening that we didn't expect to happen in quite this way, but it is such an amazing blessing to have such a cute little one to take care of.

The Stork Has Delivered Our Little One :)

Her birth was miraculous, and her life is a miracle. On Wednesday, July 16th, Kim was a week past the due date, and still no contractions. We decided to play Dance Dance Revolution to see if we could jostle her into contractions. (Plus those DDR pads would be easy to wipe off if her water were to break.) The next morning, Thursday the 17th, Kim woke me up and said she might be trickling amniotic fluid. To know for sure, we called her CNM's and they had us come in to their clinic. The midwife that was on call that day, Jessica Haddy, looked at a sample under the microscope to see if it was her "water." Amniotic fluid "ferns" under the microscope (like a snowflake). She said it half was and half wasn't. She got a second and third opinion from other nurses, and they unanimously decided that the dam truly did have a leak in it. The midwife told us to go prepare and come to the hospital at our leasure later that afternoon. Leaving the parking lot, she called us on Kim's cell phone and left a voicemail saying, "Um, change of plans. I totally forgot you were GBS positive. We'll need you to come to the hospital in an hour." So little did we know, the clock had started ticking already, and here we were about to go to Burger King for breakfast... We prepared ourselves mentally and phisically, and I gave Kim a Priesthood Blessing before we walked out the door. We arrived at the hospital at 1:00 PM, nervous and anxious. Jessica put her on Pitocin, the sinthetic version of the hormone a woman's body produces to commence labor. The first part of labor was slow. We even had Kim's mom, my mom, and our friend Katie come to visit. The monitor said Kim was going through contractions every 2 minutes or so, though she laughed and conversed through them. That would soon change. The dosage of Pitocin was increased every few hours, and over the course of almost 12 hours, the contractions became very strong, and Kim was becoming fatigued from the exertion. Kim wasn't dialating hardly at all, and Jessica offered that we go to sleep. (She said most women either wake up in labor or labor stops all together.) So they put Kim on some Happy Meds and we went to sleep. At about 2 am, Jessica woke me up saying Kim would probably need a C-section. Kim and I both started to cry, and when there was no one else in the room, I quickly gave her another Priesthood Blessing. I didn't say more than "... that you will be able to have this baby naturally." when another nurse opened the door. I quickly ended the 3 sentance blessing, and the nurse entered and began preparing Kim for the C-section. The surgery room was ready, the surgeon was there... the bed was even outside our room ready to take her down to surgery. It was not likely that any other option could even be considered at that point. Kim requested that she be checked just one last time before they carted her away. It was a slim chance that she had dialated any more in the last half hour or so. Dr. Parker, a very skilled, wise doctor from Jessica's clinic, was also on call that night. He checked Kim's cervix, and he decided that she had made progress. He also said that it might be benificail to "break" the rest of the amniotic sac. He did, and it was like a waterfall all over the bed. This bought us another hour before they would make her get a C-Section. In that time, contractions continued to intensify. Jessica mentioned that if she were to still go natural, she would have no energy by the time she needed to push the baby out. She reccommended that Kim get an Epidural to make this part of labor easier, and then when it came time to push, let off on the Meds so she could feel when she needed to push. We were really hoping that she wouldn't need an Epidural... After all, we were trying to have this baby as naturally as possible. But, what had to be done had to be done, so we agreed. The Anesthisiologist, Ben, came in soon thereafter, and began the Epidural process. (OK, let me fill you in: Kim doesn't take too well to pain medication. It doesn't work well, and sometimes not at all.) Little did we know, Kim was entering into the most painful phase of labor, Transition. Right, imagine having someone sticking a pencil into your back, feeling it the entire time, while you're screaming in pain because you're insides are imploding. Yeah, so you can guess that she didn't have the guy go all the way with the Epidural. Plus it didn't work. She could feel it the entire time. She kept telling him she could feel it, so he kept trying different spots. Kim was screaming in pain. (Kim said this was the 2nd most painful part of labor, 1st being "the ring of Fire.") Jessica had him stop and leave so she could check Kim's cervix one more time. The Anesthiseologist left (he had good intentions, he did.) and Jessica said that Kim was dialated to 9cm and almost fully effaced. Kim and I looked at each other, surprised at the news, and we concorded, "Why don't we just do this..." So the actual pushing started just before 6am and the baby came at 6:23am. Yeah, she flew out. Kim didn't even push to get the shoulders or body out. She just... flew out! They laid the baby on Kim's chest, I cut the Umbilical Cord, and they cleaned up and wheighed the baby. Because the baby came so fast, Kim tore pretty bad, so they handed her to me while Mommy got stitched up. It took about an hour for Jessica and Dr. Parker together to stitch up everywhere she tore. That hour was painful for Kim, but sweet bliss for me. There I was, holding my precious angel for the first time. I could hardly believe it. It was just then hitting me that I was a Daddy. Just then, I realized that big belly that Kim was carrying around for 10 months actually had a child in it. Every time I looked at her, I cried. Every time I looked at Kim, I cried. This was the beginning of a brand new chapter of our life.

Our Angel Has Finally Arrived!

After a long awaited debut, we are pleased to announce the arrival of our little miracle, Eeva Nicole Miller. I really hope that she comes before that cause if they do induce, the contractions will be a lot stronger and harder and I am trying to go natural. If they are too much harder than they would have been, I don't know if I'll be able to handle them; even with all the techniques we've learned. I didn't know this until yesturday, but legally they are required to push an induction by the 42nd week. After that studies have shown that the baby starts to get sick from being in there too long and the placenta starts to deteriorate, so the baby can't get enough nutrients. Some babies even come out green if left in there too long after 42 weeks. Apparently, it is almost more dangerous to have them born too late then to have them born premature. She's fine until 42 weeks, but we can't leave her in there to "cook" any longer than that. We definately need all the prayers we can get right now to help move her birth along (naturally if possible).

I swear there's a baby coming!

Ok, so it's 5 days past the due date, and we're all a little anxious. We've been getting phone calls daily from friends and family asking if we had the baby and had the gall to not inform them. Have no fear... she's in there. We'll let you know. :)
I had a chat with her last night before we went to bed. I put my ear up against Kim's belly and I asked our little angel if we would get to see her soon. I told her that there were hundreds of people out here that already love her very much. I asked her if she was coming soon, and she gave me a deliberate kick in the ear, which I suppose means, "Yeah dad, I'm coming. Just two more weeks till the due date for our little angel to arrive!! :) I am very nervous about labor, but I know my Heavenly Father will help me through it. I really want to go all natural, without an epidural or other pain medication... but if things don't go exactly as I plan then I'm ok with whatever happens. I heard that bouncing on birthing balls during contractions makes them hurt less so I had Kirk inflate my exercise ball a couple days ago :) Its sitting in the baby crib, just waiting for the contractions to start so I can use it. It is so crazy that its already been almost 9 months since I got pregnant... Kirk and I have been married just over 1 year now and the time has just flown by. I have been sick most of the pregnancy (being sick eased off at the end to about once or twice every 3 days... much better than throwing up 18 or more times per day like it was at the beginning) so I haven't gotten out in the last nine months as much as I used to, I guess the days just passed by without me hardly noticing them because I wasn't out working and stuff. I would have to say that over this past year my love for Kirk has grown emmensely. I don't know where I would be without him. He is an incredible man. I can't wait to see him in action as a Father to our beautiful baby along with his role of amazing husband.

New Registry

Jennifer held an amazing Baby Shower for Kim on Saturday. Lots of friends and family were there with their love and support. (yes I went... and I came in 3rd in the bottle drinking competition!) As Kim opened presents, someone gave us a package of newborn diapers. Kim put it next to me and I started reading the label. I said, "Wow, 7-14 lbs... these thing sure can hold a lot. It's nice you don't have to change 'em as often." With a mindset like that, you can tell I'm going to be a Stellar Dad. haha So, we realized there are a few more things that are not at Target that we need, so we created a Babies-R-us registry for the 4 or 5 items Target didn't carry. (Who knew a baby would need so much stuff?!?) The link is http://www.toysrus.com/ControllerServlet?lastName=miller&firstName=kimberly&state=UT&target=search&userType=giftGiver&searchForPerson=primReg&whereTo=viewRegistry&x=41&y=11

The Baby Shower last night was really fun! We are now well supplied with newborn diapers and enough Baby Wipes to find more uses for them than just wiping babies.

If you missed this one, there will be another shower for Kim at Jennifer Barclay's house in Eagle Mountain. I know what you're thinking. "Eagle Mountain... Isn't that close to the Nevada border?" Very funny. Actually if you take Redwood Road from Salt Lake, it's actually closer and faster than getting to Kim's parents' house. There's some unexplainable stigma about going into Utah County... If you're from Salt Lake County, anything south of the Point of the Mountain is "Forbidden Territory."
Anyway, Jennifer's shower for Kim is on Saturday, the 31st of May (the Saturday after Memorial Day weekend) @ 3:00pm. Call Jennifer if you have any questions: 801.310.7608

Jennifer's Aderess:
7034 Cherokee St.
Eagle Mountain, UT 84005

Here's the link to the Shower invite:

If you're coming from Salt Lake, take Redwood Road instead of I-15. It's scary how fast you'll get there. No, serious. It's only like 25 minutes.

Celebrating A New Baby Girl With You Is So Exciting!

There are two baby showers being thrown for our little one on the way. The first one is on May 17th, in Salt Lake County, at the Golden Corral on Fort Union Blvd. (Midvale) from 5-7pm. Most of the people coming to this one are Kirks side of the family and good friends of Kirk and I.

If people can't make it to that one they are welcome to come to the second one that is being held in Utah County by my Sister-In-Law, Jennifer, at her beautiful home in Eagle Mountain on the 31st of May at 3pm. Most of the people attending this one are on my side of our family, friends from church, or just couldn't make it out to the other one for one reason or another.

If anyone needs any extra info on either of these, or needs an invitation but was never sent one, let me know and I'll get you all the info I can.

We are so excited to celebrate the coming of our baby with everyone! Hope you can make it to at least one of the parties for our little angel.

(P.S. We are registered for her at Target/Target.com... info on our registry is in the blog below this one. :) We love you and hope to see you all soon!)

Baby!!

It's a girl! The official non-official date is July 9th ish... 2008. (We've heard a few different dates so we averaged them.) :)
Kim and I are overwhelmingly excited about our soon-to-be titles (Mommy and Daddy!) haha We can't wait until our little bundle of joy comes into the world. When we went to Kim's last doctor's appointment, (yes, I go to all of them... :) good hubby = brownie points!) they said everything looks great, and as far as she can tell our baby is growing right on schedule.
Ahh yes, I almost forgot. We registered our little girl on Target.com. (I've never seen so many different swings, cribs and strollers in all my life! They all look the same to me, but for some reason, the buyer feedbacks are either "This product is amazing!!" or, "This product will kill your baby!!" so in chosing the registry, we tended to lean more toward the non-fatal items.
